Officers are the clergy of The Salvation Army. After two successful years of training, Salvation Army officers are commissioned and given “rank” as lieutenants, ordained as ministers, and assigned to active duty, usually ministering at a local Salvation Army church (or corps). Salvation Army officers must devote their full time to Salvation Army work.

The Salvation Army places of worship are sometimes called 'citadels' or 'temples', but, whatever their name, they are Christian churches open to the community they serve and offering a warm welcome to all.
